Description

Are you passionate about Fall Prevention? If your life’s work is focused on reducing falls and teaching an evidence-based proven-to-work class? Well, we have just that!!  This course will give you cutting-edge skills, with a program that has been proven worldwide to reduce falls.  

A fulfilling, mobile & self-reliant life – free of injury from falls – is within reach for older adults. Group Otago was created to achieve maximum stability & agility to live a confidently independent life. This course enables you to be the conduit for life-enhancing improvements in a fun group setting outside the constraints of the healthcare system.

Group Otago Certification ensures Therapists and Instructors have all the materials and knowledge on how to implement this program to positively improve the lives of our aging community members by proactively reducing falls with a proven, measurable, clearly defined program that is backed by the CDC.

In Group Otago, the Therapist and Instructor partner together to bring the GO magic to life!  You will collaborate to apply the protocol, perform the STEADI Fall risk assessment, and work together to individualize the group protocol.

The therapist can perform their role either in person or virtually online.

Therapist’s Role:

    • May participate in STEADI fall risk assessments every 8 weeks
    • Oversees the individualization of the group protocol based on GO algorithm
    • Review the data input of pre/post scores
    • Be a resource for instructors through class duration (PRN)
    • Time commitment is only 1-2hrs every 8 weeks after the initial training

Instructor’s Role:

  • Participate in STEADI fall risk assessments every 8 weeks
  • Collaborate with Therapist on STEADI fall risk assessment results for individualization of the group protocol
  • Teach classes 2x/week
  • Coordinate sign-up for the Group Otago class
